Stephen Doyle

Stephen Doyle

Chief Executive Officer

Stephen brings over thirty years of training experience to the organisation from Corporate to Government and everything in between. Stephen has served with distinction in the Defence Forces as an instructor for 23 years from 1989 to 2012 in both operational and training environments, here and overseas. He has conducted eight operational tours serving with UNIFIL in the Middle East and NATO forces in Kosovo.

Since 2013 Experience includes working for various organizations and firms in Europe and the Middle East in a broad spectrum of safety & security services specializing in Close Protection, risk mitigation and management systems implementation as well as the training of NGO & HNW personnel in HEAT (Hostile Environment Operations)Health & Safety, Emergency First Aid, Situational Awareness & Personal Protection through his company safety and security solutions.

He is a graduate of the Military College where he served on staff with the Cadet School and UN training School.

He is also a graduate of Andrews University, Templemore College and the Security Institute Ireland in international terrorism and advanced security studies.

He is a practising EMT with the order of Malta.

Kevin Ring

Kevin Ring

Security Consultant & Trainer

Kevin retired from an Garda Síochána in 2018, retiring with the rank of Detective Inspector after more than 34 years exemplary service, mainly operating within specialist Garda and multi-agency units (Central Detective Unit, Criminal Assets Bureau, Garda Liaison and Protection). He is currently the owner of a successful, bespoke and discreet security consultancy firm namely, Eastham Security Services.

Throughout his career he has maintained an excellent record of managing multi-agency and specialist law enforcement teams, by developing and implementing state-of-the-art security practices and policies as well as leading out on many national and international investigation and close protection operations.

For the last four and a half years of his police service he largely operated as the Program Manager and Close Protection Lead at home and abroad for the President of Ireland. An important aspect of his many official journeys abroad involved carrying out advanced security reviews of various locations across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe, South America, and the USA which had to be undertaken prior to the President of Ireland arriving. He also accompanied the President on these official visits as the senior security officer and oversaw the rolling out of the security programme he had previously designed. He has also acted as the Irish Security Team Lead for many visiting VIP's (Presidents, Prime Ministers, Senior Royals, Military etc) who have visited Ireland.

Kevin now acts as a security consultant and part of his new role is to design and deliver bespoke technical and physical security packages to mitigate any perceived risks to the client or their company as well as consulting and advising on site specific security issues for his clients.

Sangeeta Udhin

Gerry Setright

Counter IED Expert

Gerry Setright has been a Soldier, Senior Manager, Leader, Trainer, Operator, Team member, Motivator, Friend, and Comrade, for over 39 years in Irish Defence Forces, (Army); But he is much more than this, he is also a Husband, Father, Brother, and active within his local Community . Gerry’s final military posting was that of Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) (senior manager) within the Military College’s, Artillery School. Gerry was responsible for the development and supervision of junior leaders, (Officers and NCOs) training and education; along with training design development, evaluation and lessons learned processes for both conventional and Special Forces (SF) units in various subjects principally, Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR). Gerry has extensive experience in overseas pre deployment training, and personal deployments, specialising in C-IED (Counter Improvised Explosive Devices) & COIN (Counter Insurgency) training, along with Situational and Threat awareness. Gerry has operational experience in Vehicle borne operations (Planning Organisation, and Commanding) In high risk and austere environments again in support of conventional and SF operations. Gerry is also experienced in VIP Domestic and Personal Close Protection operations, with recent national and international experience. His academic qualifications,(Honours Degree in Business Management, a Degree in Leadership Management and Defence Studies, Certificates in Training Needs Analysis & Training Design along with Health Safety & Welfare at work, and a City and Guilds Certification in Close Protection, supports and enhances his Military, leadership, operational and training Capabilities and experience. This Experience has been developed and cultivated by twelve (12) operational deployments throughout the Middle East, Africa, Europe and Asia; again supported by cross training with other military forces in The UK, France, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Spain, Italy, Hungary and Afghanistan.

Tony O'Brien

Tony O'Brien

Security Consultant & Trainer

Tony has worked and trained extensively in the security and safety and risk management fields over the past 21 years. Working across all sectors of the security industry from customer service-based roles right through to medium and high-risk environments in corporate, event and close protection. Tony quickly developed a reputation in the industry and moved into management and training roles in 2006.

Working in these areas at both an operational and management level Tony developed systems and procedures to enhance the safety of employees and customers experience in a range of businesses including technology and hospitality. He implemented staff training programmes which were proven to be safe and effective and delivered hugely positive results in terms of reduction in incidents and security issues and an increase in safety, staff morale, confidence and company business results.

Based on these results Tony began designing and developing security and risk management programmes which have been delivered to a range of public and private sector clients across Europe. Programmes designed by Tony have been shortlisted in both 2015 and 2016 for the Irish Institute of training and Development National Training Award. In both 2017,2019 and 2020 Tony’s security and conflict management training programmes were awarded the National Training award and Tony was awarded the National Rising Star in Training and Development for his work in raising the profile of personal safety training in workplaces. Tony is regarded as a subject matter expert in the security, safety, conflict management and use of force sectors in legal circles and regularly submits testimony to the High Court on security issues. Tony is also a QQI subject matter expert for the development of all new QQI accredited security and safety awards. Operationally Tony has led security and close protection projects for one of Europe’s leading luxury hotel chains and corporate events.

Tony’s professional qualifications include trainer awards in the delivery of conflict management and physical intervention from City and Guilds, and The Crisis Prevention Institute. Tony also holds recognised professional qualifications in managing safety and risk assessment from IOSH (Institute of Occupational Safety and Health), and other certifications in close protection and first aid responder training. In addition to these Tony has trained extensively around the world in other high-risk areas such as aviation safety & security and tactical firearms. He has a Business Degree from the Lochlann Quinn Business school in UCD, a diploma in Security Risk Management and a Diploma in Training and Education from NUIG.

Outside of his professional qualifications Tony has a diverse 33-year background in Martial Arts and personal safety including black belt grades in Tae—Kwon-Do and Japanese Jiu Jitsu. His martial arts experience has taken him all over the world where he has had the opportunity to train and teach personal safety to a huge range of students from police officers, prison service and military personnel to children and students with learning difficulties and physical disabilities.

John Deegan

John Deegan

Security Consultant & Trainer

Having served with distinction from 1985 to 2011 with the Irish Defence Forces. His experience includes 24 yrs military service, and as a military instructor, 14 of which were with the Army Ranger Wing Special Forces.

He is currently responsible for all residential security team and close protection training and operations. He is also one of our highly skilled Safety & Security Trainers. Experience includes but is not exclusive to U.N. service in Lebanon, Army Ranger Wing operations in East Timor, and NATO operations in Kosovo.

In addition to this he has a vast experience in security operations in high threat areas around the globe since his discharge from the forces, such as Maritime Security Team Leader - Salama Fikira Maritime: Oct 2011 Oct 2014 amongst others.

As a flexible and motivated instructor he achieves results by paying attention to detail, doing the routine jobs well and leading by example. Johns excellent interpersonal skills and common sense make him an excellent team leader and trainer and is a valued part of our team, guaranteeing clients, customers and students get the best training, service and learning experience possible.

Len Smith

Mr. Len Smith

Physical Intervention Trainer

Leonard is a retired Defence Forces veteran of over 31 years, in which time he specialized in telecommunications before moving to the Defence Forces School of Physical Education, instructing and coordinating courses such as Physical Training Instructors, Health Related Fitness Assessment and Unarmed Combat Instructor Courses.

Leonard served in 5 missions overseas; 3 times in Lebanon, twice with the International Quick Reaction Force, twice in Africa in the Desert and Jungle Terrain of East and West Africa.

Externally qualifying as a Neuromuscular Therapist with extensive knowledge of soft tissue injuries and body biomechanics, as well as a qualified Track and Trail Guide. Overall he possesses a vast array of experience and diverse skills.

Lorcan Byrne

Mr. Declan Power

Security & Defence Analyst

Declan Power is an independent security and defence analyst, published author and former soldier. In addition to offering training on crisis/risk management and intelligence analysis technique, he is delivers the Terrorism and International Security Studies course at City Colleges Dublin, a course he devised for a wide variety of security practitioners. He is also an Adjunct Teaching Fellow in Conflict, Security and Development at Trinity College Dublin. Prior to this Declan worked abroad extensively with the European Commission on projects involving counter-terrorism and violent extremism. In recent years he led on a successful joint Irish-Swiss government funded project to manage conflict and crisis in South Sudan. He was also a panelist on the 2015 White Paper on Defence.

Declan is a graduate of DCU and TCD and has received specialist training and education at the Defence Force Military College, Brunel University Centre for Intelligence and Security Studies, the UN and NATO's CCOE. He is a UN-certified facilitator/Instructor in Crisis and Emergency Management. When not deployed, Declan provides analysis to both broadcast and print media on security and defence matters. He is the author of 'Siege at Jadotville', successfully adapted for the Netflix film of similar title.

Rory Byrne

Mr. Rory Byrne

Co-founder and Executive Director

Rory co-founded Security First in 2013 to develop technology and training that makes security easy for everyone. He has overseen the development and launch of Umbrella, a free, open source Android app containing up-to-date digital and physical security resources for use in hostile environments, and Tent, a content management system for other organisations to publish their own version of Umbrella. He leads Security First trainings with organisations and activists operating in high-risk areas around the world. Rory’s experience includes work in Westminster and with the military. He has spent the past decade working to share his expertise in risk analysis and mitigation with the people who need it most. In 2008 he helped establish Videre, a UK-based charity that equips and trains activists to gather, verify and distribute covert camera footage documenting human rights abuses.

He served as Videre's Head of Security and Research for five years, training hundreds of human rights defenders across Africa, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe in areas as varied as encryption, counter-surveillance, covert filming, risk management and secure communications. The thirty-five module training program he developed was cited by USAID as the industry-leading standard. He is also a Certified Ethical Hacker.

Brian Byrne has over 15 years’ experience in the healthcare sector. Achieving an Honors Degree in Psychology Brian has been a social care worker, behavioral specialist, and residential services manager supporting some of the most vulnerable people over the years. Brian has intimate knowledge of neurodevelopmental disorders, Intellectual disabilities, mental health issues and acute psychiatric disorders.

Brian is currently involved in the delivery of training and has delivered a wide range of training to national and multinational organizations across instructor and end user platforms.

Previously Sangeeta Worked in the security industry for over 10 Years 2008-2018 and as a training Consultant for 8 years from 2013.

Sangeeta has extensive experience and knowledge in the Security Sector as an Administrator, Office Manager, Store Detective , Static Manager and Training Manager.

In 2012 Sangeeta was Awarded employee of year 2011 amongst many other accolades.

Sangeeta holds a Valid PSA Licence and certification such as: Fetac Level 4 Guarding Skills & Door Supervisor, Fetac Level 5 Security Team Leader, Fetac Level 6 Supervisory Security Management, Fetac Level 6 Train the Trainer and Manual Handling Fetac level 6 Train the Trainer.
